 How choosing the right vegetable stock can help save the orang-utan!
How can vegetable stock harm the environment? Many of the products in our supermarkets, from margarine to biscuits, and lipstick to candles, contain palm oil. Palm oil is used extensively in the food industry. At first glance, this seems to be a good thing because palm oil is stable when heated, doesn't raise blood cholesterol, has a bland taste and is 15 times richer in carotenoids than carrots. However, most palm oil comes from Malaysia and Indonesia which are also the home of the orang-utan. Already 90% of the orang-utan's habitat has been destroyed to make way for palm oil plantations.
